Tumeric has been around for centuries and was mostly used in Indian cuisine and Ayurveda up until recently when scientists discovered healing properties in the plant. Curcumin is a chemical found in the tumeric root and is widely known for aiding and curing a list of illnesses and diseases and disorders.
Scientists discovered that it is beneficial in treating Alzheimer’s as well as other diseases affecting the psychosis. It’s also been known to heal the blood brain barrier, a membrane that protects the brain.
In most Indian homes it’s almost tradition to drink tumeric, either in water or milk ( haldi milk) whenever a person is sick and also as a daily elixir. It’s also used as offering in traditional hindu prayers and passed around afterwards to drink from the cup and be blessed with good health!
One of the ways I get to enjoy this is in a Smoothie. Recipe is as follows: blend juice of 1 orange, 1 tsp organic turmeric powder, 1 medium size banana, a tiny piece of ginger, 1 TBL lemon and pinch black pepper. Optional: you can also add 2 TBL of Greek yogurt to the blend as a probiotic supplement. Drink immediately. Enjoy!
