Why We Chose Canada: Our Research Journey for a New Beginning

Moving to a new country is an exciting and life-changing decision. After careful consideration and extensive research, we decided that Canada was the perfect destination for our fresh start. In this blog post, we will delve into the reasons why we chose Canada and discuss our research process that led us to this remarkable decision.

This statue commemorates the real-life bear named “Winnipeg” that inspired A.A. Milne’s beloved character, Winnie the Pooh. The bear was originally purchased by a Canadian soldier named Lieutenant Harry Colebourn during World War I and named after his hometown Winnipeg.

In 2014 we spoke about moving and talked about places we would have loved to live in if we had the opportunity. Canada has always been number 1 for me. It started when I was a child and wanted to live in Winnipeg because of my favourite book “Winnie the Pooh”. I read an article about how the bear was from Winnipeg so I wanted to go there and live in the forest. When I was a teenager I learned about polar bears living in Churchill, Manitoba and once again was fascinated and wanted to go live there until I learned later in life that polar bears can actually hunt and eat you! That changed my mind real quick! I still was keen on Canada and spent most of my time over the many years learning and networking so I could figure out a way to make it work until I eventually forgot about my dream.

Fast forward to 2014 and Lee and I got married and started talking about leaving. For Lee it was a difficult decision to make as he always dreamed of living out his days on his family farm where he was born and raised. Later that year we went to an expo for people wanting to immigrate. That’s when we made up our minds. The expo featured a few countries but we both agreed on Canada. The reason we chose this are below.

  1. Welcoming Immigration Policies: Canada has long been recognized for its welcoming stance towards immigrants. The country offers a range of immigration programs and pathways that facilitate the process of moving and settling in Canada. Through thorough research, we discovered that Canada places a high value on diversity, providing us with a sense of belonging and acceptance.
  2. Strong Economy and Job Opportunities: One of the crucial factors in our decision-making process was the strong Canadian economy. Canada boasts a stable and thriving economy with a wide array of job opportunities across various industries. We extensively researched employment prospects, market demand, and growth potential in Canada, and were impressed by the abundant opportunities available for skilled professionals and entrepreneurs alike.
  3. Quality of Life: Canada consistently ranks high in global quality of life indices. Our research revealed that Canada excels in areas such as education, healthcare, safety, and social welfare. The country offers a rich cultural mosaic, stunning natural landscapes, and vibrant urban centers, ensuring a well-rounded lifestyle for its residents. We sought to provide ourselves and our family with a safe and secure environment, and Canada emerged as an ideal choice.
  4. Education and Healthcare Systems: For those with children, the quality of education and healthcare systems is of utmost importance. Canada has a highly regarded education system, encompassing top-ranked universities, colleges, and schools. Additionally, the country’s universal healthcare system ensures that all residents have access to essential medical services. Our extensive research revealed that Canada prioritizes education and healthcare, making it an excellent choice for our family’s well-being and future.
  5. Natural Beauty and Outdoor Recreation: Canada’s breathtaking natural beauty, including its vast forests, majestic mountains, and picturesque lakes, played a significant role in our decision-making process. We aspired to embrace an active outdoor lifestyle and found that Canada offers abundant opportunities for hiking, skiing, camping, and exploring its national parks. Our research into Canada’s natural wonders left us in awe, reinforcing our desire to immerse ourselves in its scenic landscapes.
  6. Multicultural Society and Social Integration: Canada is renowned for its multicultural society, where people from diverse backgrounds coexist harmoniously. Our research indicated that Canada fosters an inclusive environment, promoting social integration and cultural diversity. We were inspired by the prospect of raising our family in a place where people from various cultures and ethnicities are respected and celebrated.

Iconic Lake Louise in Alberta. Nestled in Banff National Park, its pristine turquoise waters reflect the surrounding snow-capped peaks, creating a postcard-perfect scene. This glacier-fed lake owes its dazzling blue hue to the fine particles of rock flour, resulting from glacial erosion.

Conclusion: Our decision to move to Canada was based on a thorough and comprehensive research journey. We explored various aspects such as immigration policies, job opportunities, quality of life, education and healthcare systems, natural beauty, and social integration. After careful consideration, Canada emerged as an ideal destination, offering a promising future for ourselves and our family. So far we are enjoying this new chapter of our lives and experiencing all that Canada has to offer.
